A Qatar Airways flight was escorted into Manchester Airport by British fighter jets on Tuesday, after receiving a threat of a possible device onboard.

British passenger Josh Hartley provided live updates on Twitter.

He and the other passengers were not immediately informed of the situation.

In a quick response to a report from the plane, the UK Defence Ministry sent Typhoon aircraft to investigate.

Armed police, who were awaiting the plane on the ground, arrested a passenger in baggy trousers and a sports shirt, according to a Reuters photographer who witnessed the arrest.

Greater Manchester Police said on its official Twitter feed that it had detained a man in connection with the incident.

Hartley posted several images of passengers leaving the plane and in the airport.

The passengers were eventually let go by the authorities, and Hartley tweeted thanks to those who supported him online during the incident.
