A Turkish journalist is facing two years of imprisonment for allegedly insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Facebook, Todays Zaman newspaper reported Wednesday.

Mine Bekiroglu, 28, had been detained by police in February last year over claims she insulted then Prime Minister Erdogan. She was later released pending trial.

Bekiroglu claimed that her Facebook posts about Erdogan “did not include an insult,” the newspaper reported.

A prosecutor filed a criminal case against Bekiroglu and it was accepted recently by the southern province of Adana’s court.

She is expected to appear before the court in the coming days.
