The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate has condemned the violations of the Houthi militias and their ally, ousted President Saleh, against journalists and the media.

The union, in its report on the sidelines of UNHCR meetings in Geneva revealed that the violations affected more than 200 journalists and media organizations, calling for the release of journalists arrested.

The year 2017 appears to be more violent and hostile towards journalists, according to the report, which documented 130 violations by Houthis and Saleh allies against journalists during the first half of this year, up 30 percent from the same period last year.

These violations ranged from the threat of suspension, torture and murder, hacking of news sites to the kidnapping and prosecution of journalists and their property.
