Documentary reveals what happened when Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz met Churchill

Al Arabiya News Channel is to broadcast a documentary – that was initially aired by MBC in 1996 - in which the translator of Saudi Arabia’s late King Abdullah, Abdullah Belkhair, discussed the details of a meeting between the kingdom’s founder King Abdulaziz and the then British PM Winston Churchill.

The meeting occurred following Britain’s victory over the Germans, the Japanese and the Italians.

King Abdul Aziz told Churchill at the time: “I have secured the Red Sea water from the Italians in Asmara and Messoura, and from the French in Djibouti."

He added: "I want the price of my participation in this victory, I want my right of victory, I am not begging for it. If I did not exist, there would be about 50,000 Japanese deployed in the region."

Belkhair said that King Abdulaziz went on to receive a host of weapons and supplies from Churchill.
