The Tunisian national football team won against Algeria (1:0) at the African cup of nations.

Tunisia is ranked 53rd in the world, and Algeria is ranked in the 22nd place. reported goal.com on Tuesday.

Algeria will clash against a familiar enemy on Tuesday night during their Africa Cup of Nations Group D opener against Tunisia. The two teams have played with each other 47 times and the North African champs are part of what has been called the 'Group of Death', with Togo and Cote d'Ivoire finishing out Group D.

Algerian coach, Valid Halilhodzic, who led his team to an unsuccessful 2010 World Cup qualifications journey, has seen his team rise to second place in Africa in the rankings, with an impressive win-loss record in 2012.

Tunisian coach, Sami Trabelsi, is under pressure to secure his team a place in the semi-final in this tournament. Failing to do so could lose him his job as his last successful campaign was in 2004, in that instance he did secure an Africa Cup of Nations victory however.

Both Tunisia and Algeria have good background knowledge of each other’s playing style. The goalkeeper’s coach of Tunisia, Mohamed Nacer, is confident that his team will know how to win against Algeria.

“In football, there is no such thing as a difficult group. If you want to win the cup you have be prepared to play against all teams. For us, we are familiar with Ivory Coast, Togo and Algeria. I think the first game is going to be very important for everyone,” Nacer told reporters.

“Algeria and Tunisia know each other very well. The game against them is very important since it is the first in this group, and every team looks forward to winning the first match.”
