AC Milan's Essien denies rumors he contracted Ebola

AC Milan football player Michael Essien denied Sunday rumors that he has contracted the deadly Ebola virus after he was at the center of an Internet hoax.

The Ghanaian player wrote on one of his Instagram pictures that the circulating rumors were completely false.

“I’m very fit and very healthy, No truth in the internet rumours that I have contracted Ebola,” the player wrote.

“Im well & will be training as usual tomorrow.The Ebola virus is a very serious issue and people shouldn’t joke about it.Whoever wrote this article is very unprofessional and insensitive…!!!” he added.

The African footballer also took to Twitter to deny the allegations.

“No truth in internet rumours that I have contracted Ebola.i m very well & I'm doing very gud & will be training as usual tomorrow.#falsenews,” he wrote.

The rumor was first announced by Yury Alkaev, who claims on Twitter he is a sports journalist.

Media outlets later started picking up the story.
