Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach has said he believes the Filipino boxing champion can overcome undefeated American Floyd Mayweather if given the chance, according to Sky Sports.
In a battle that has become known as the “fight of the century,” Pacquiao was beaten on points by Mayweather when the pair met in May for the first time in their careers.
Many sports analysts were surprised by the result, claiming Mayweather did not actually win the fight.
A statistics report by Boxing News 24 in May concluded that while the American threw more punches than the Filipino boxer, only 68 of those 471 punches landed; 30 punches fewer than Pacquiao’s.
Roach also said that Pacquiao would have won that fight had his right shoulder not been injured.
But the Filipino boxer may not get the chance of a rematch, as Mayweather has said his final fight will come next month against Andre Berto in Las Vegas.
