Dr. Hossam Elsharkawi is the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies regional director for the Middle East and North Africa. Elsharkawi, with over 30 years of experience in the humanitarian world, has worked with ICRC, IFRC, Norwegian Red Cross and Palestine Red Crescent. His extensive experience includes assignments to more than thirty-five countries and led complex humanitarian negotiations. He completed a one-year assignment as Senior Consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, where he developed a guidance document for medical teams responding to health emergencies in armed conflict and insecure environments.
