Haneefa Adam, a 24-year-old medical science student from Nigeria, told CNN that she started posting the pictures on Instagram because “I had not seen Barbie dressed in a hijab before .”

Since Adam’s first post of a Hijab-wearing Barbie a month ago, her account has gained over 28 thousand followers.

“[The Islamic-inspired looks have] roots in my religion and cultural identity. The way Barbie dresses is very skimpy and different and there’s nothing wrong with it. I just wanted to give another option for Muslim girls like me,” said Adam.
