An Air India (AI) Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft flying from Amritsar to Delhi ran into severe turbulence on Thursday which caused a window panel to completely fall off.

The incident, which one of the plane passengers recorded on his mobile phone, caused three injuries and several overhead oxygen masks to be dropped.

According to the Times of India, the window was next to seat number ‘12U’ where an elderly woman was sitting. In the video, the woman is seen grabbing her head while another passenger tries to put the window panel back in its place.

Following a safe landing in Delhi, the three injured passengers were taken to hospital, the newspaper reported.

“The turbulence on AI 462 was such that the head of a seated passenger, who possibly did not have his seat belt fastened, hit the overhead cabin because of a bump,” the newspaper cited sources as saying.

“This was a freak high level turbulence. AI and Directorate General of Civil Aviation is probing it,” an official at the airline said.

The sources added that one passenger received stitches while the other two were treated for minor injuries. All three went on their connecting flights on the same day.
