Lebanon is currently under lockdown as the government tries to slow the spread of the new coronavirus, which has killed 19 people in the country. But while these circumstances have disrupted life and caused suffering, one man seemingly decided that lockdown wouldn’t get in the way of him proposing to his future wife.

In the video which was shared on Twitter, two men in full disinfection suits are lifted by crane to a balcony of an upper-level apartment. A woman then walks out to the balcony, followed by friends and family.

She immediately looks shocked.

“You’re joking,” says the unidentified woman. “You’re pranking me.”

She takes a few steps closer to the two men and seems to recognize the man who is about to become her fiancé.

“It’s you?!” She says. “No way.”

The man then hops over the railing onto the balcony and, after taking time to remove his gas mask, gets down on one knee. He places a ring on her finger and stands up to hug his new fiancée as onlookers in the neighborhood cheer and applaud.

The short clip is one of many videos set on balconies to emerge from Lebanon during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

Last week, Lebanese residents cheered and applauded from their balconies to celebrate their “heroic” medical workers battling the virus. The country’s healthcare system has been put under considerable strain as medical staff work to treat patients in underfunded hospitals.

People in other countries across the world have also made creative use of their balconies while under lockdown.

In Spain, residents joined a workout class from their own balconies after a fitness instructor began leading some moves from a building rooftop, while in the United Arab Emirates citizens and residents sang the country’s national anthem from their balconies to show gratitude and solidarity with first responders and health authorities.
