Saudi book club encourages reading among youth

In a bid to encourage reading among youth, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Khobar held its annual event, a competition known as iRead, where dozens of children are exposed to books and other literature.

The program is part of an initiative by Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, better known as ‘Ithra’ and aims to support children in the Kingdom.

Children, as well as adults, enjoy a series of cultural events related to reading books. Children are encouraged to write literary texts and share them with others.

The competition includes workshops, lectures, movie screenings and theater performances.

In its seventh anniversary, participants compete to win “Reader of the Year” award where they are encouraged to submit book reviews.
