VIDEO: Yemeni student assaulted, dragged by security guards in Indian university
A Yemeni student at Sharda University in Greater Noida in India was assaulted by seven university guards and then thrown outside campus, a video posted by the student’s friends showed.
Initial reports said the student was Kenyan while others said he was Saudi. However, Al Arabiya.net contacted the Saudi kingdom’s embassy in New Delhi and confirmed the student is a Yemeni and not a Saudi.
The student filed a complaint after the police contacted him when the video surfaced. According to his complaint, he had cigarettes which he wasn’t allowed to smoke on campus but he wasn’t smoking when the incident happened on March 27.
According to Indian media reports, an FIR (First Information Report) was documented against university officials, including the head of security and his deputy and seven security personnel.
The Indian Express said the seven security personnel, including five who were hired via a private agency, were suspended by the university.
“A committee has been set up to further investigate the matter under the University Chief Proctor,” Najib Hamisu Umat, a PhD student at the university said.
