Al Arabiya’s Rola al-Khatib accompanied the US-led international coalition and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in their raid on an ISIS sleeper cell in the area of al-Busayrah in Syria’s Deir Ezzor province.
Despite intensive drills before the raid, one SDF fighter died and two others were injured in a friendly fire during the raid, while one ISIS member was killed and two others were arrested.
The raid, which targeted an ISIS cell of six or seven members in the town of al-Busayrah, included rapid deployment forces, as well as five American Hummers (Humvees) and a surveillance drone.
When asked about the international coalition’s role in the operation, an SDF soldier said they will “take care of the drone surveillance.”
“They will also be on the ground with us when we enter the houses,” he added.
At the location, the reporter was unable to join the forces in the raid for safety reasons, but she was able to document the raid from a nearby location instead, where she witnessed clashes and gunfire by snipers.
Statements of the captured ISIS members revealed they had a “deep well full of weapons: RPGs, guns, and rockets,” according to an SDF official.
