At the closing session of the conference, which was attended by a large number of prominent Arab media figures, researchers and intellectuals; participants stressed the importance of preserving the independence of Arab media, away from any political, religious or financial influence.

The conference was organized by Ashorouq Center for Democracy, Media and Human Rights in cooperation with the ISESCO.

Al Arabiya’s correspondent in North and West Africa, Khalil weld Jdoud, received the ISESCO honorary medal – on behalf of al-Rashed – from Secretary General Dr Abdul Aziz Othman al-Tuwaijri.

Tuwaijri praised al-Rashed’s efforts in developing the Arab media and underlining its independence.

“Al-Rashed has established a unique school of its kind in the Arab media that is mainly based on professional, serious and unbiased media. This made the media outlets that he has managed the most effective in the Arab world,” said Weld Jdoud, who had covered both the Tunisian and Libyan revolutions for Al Arabiya for several months.
