The 2nd Art Fest has kicked off in the Bahraini capital Manama.

The nine-day affair will see more than 100 Bahraini artists from across all disciplines showcase their work.

Everything from paintings by upcoming and established artists, to artwork created by schoolchildren, are on show and for sale.

Schools from across the country have been invited to showcase their students’ work, and there are contributions from Al Noor International, the British School of Bahrain, Dilmun School, Indian School, NMS-DPS School and the Philippines School.

Mohamed Maskati is one of the organizers and talked a bit more about some of the festival’s displays.

“Well the idea of the Zawiya exhibition is to showcase Arabic art with a modern style that works well on furniture and home or office accessories. So it is a mix, a blend between Arabic calligraphy and woodwork that are of two different schools, two different directions together,” he said.

Besides paintings and portraits, the festival is also a platform for the performing arts.

There will be special performances by the Academy of Performing Arts, the Bahrain Music Institute and other artists at the weekend.

There is also an interactive element to the festival which includes workshops by different artists, where they can showcase their craft.

The Art Fest runs from January 17-25 and 20 percent of sales goes to charity.
