Egypt’s Hayy festival opens with Mauritanian debut

Published: Updated:

A combination of folk, reggae, blues, hip hop and zouk will open this year’s Hayy festival in Egypt on Thursday, Ahram Online reported.

Mauritanian singer Noura Mint Seymali, known for tackling social and political issues, will be performing along with other female artists.

Seymali is the first Mauritanian to open the three-week festival.

The event, held annually in Egypt during the holy month of Ramadan, started in 2005 to showcase a variety of artistic performances.
