Film fans in the UAE will get the chance to watch Malayalam film "God’s Own Country" starting this Thursday after it was passed by the country’s board of censors.

The film will be released on June 5, reported UAE-based Gulf News on Tuesday.

The movie tells the story of an expat living in Dubai who travels to India’s southern state of Kerala to collect money so that his wife is released from a UAE prison.

The film had been held by UAE’s censor board for review, “due to the content of some scenes,” the newspaper added.

A UAE official told Gulf News that the film has been “cleared” for release. He did not elaborate on whether any scenes were cut out.

The movie is a drama directed by Vasudhev Sanal, and will feature Fahad Fazil, Sreenivasan and Mythili in the lead role.
