Classic film on Islam starring Anthony Quinn to get a 4K makeover

Without a doubt, converting a regular movie using a 4K technology platform would require huge amounts of money. However, it is indeed going to be well spent in the case of the historical film, 'The Message', which was directed by the late Syrian Mustafa Akkad.

Nearly 40 years after its premiere in March 1976, a revised version of the film will be presented to the Arab and international audience with 4K technology soon, it was announced during the 14th Dubai International Film Festival.

The 4K is a type of display resolution, which surpasses Full HD technology. It enhances the movie watching experience and takes the quality to a very high level with dazzling details.

The initial version of the movie was screened at the Dubai International Film Festival this week for a limited audience. However, the film will be widely distributed and screened across the Arab region during Eid al-Fitr 2018.

The classic league

'The Message' joins a group of important classic films that have been transformed using this technology. Other movies include ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ (1962) and ‘Dr. Zhivago’ (1965), both starring Egyptian actor Omar Sharif.

The English version of ‘The Message’ starred Anthony Quinn as Hamza bin Abdulmutallab, Irene Babas as Hind, Michael Anasara as Abu Sofian, Johnny Sika as Bilal ben Rabah, Michael Forest as Khaled bin al-Waleed, and Damien Thomas as Zaid bin Haritha, besides other actors.

The film tells the story of the message of Islam as passed on to the Prophet. The script - based on six books – was written most notably by the famous Irishman Harry Craig, who wrote the screenplay of Lawrence of Arabia, in collaboration with the Egyptian writers Abdul Hamid Jawdeh Sahar, Tawfiq al-Hakim and others.

The soundtrack was created by famous French musician Maurice Jarr, who is also the composer of ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and ‘Omar Mukhtar’.

The film faced several obstacles because of false rumors that Anthony Quinn plays the role of Prophet Muhammad, which was forbidden by al-Azhar and other religious institutions.

The revised version

But, how did the revised version of 'The Message' come about?

The production is the result of collaboration between two companies, Transcas and Front Row, which have also made a new introduction to the film, to be screened worldwide.

Front Line is an independent film distribution company based in Dubai with offices in Kuwait, Lebanon and Cairo.

Transcas is a Los Angeles-based film production and distribution company operating all over the world. Its director is Malik Akkad, the son of late director and producer Mostafa Akkad.
