Jakarta Fashion Week showcases southeast Asian labels

Published: Updated:

Around 17,000 couture lovers are expected to show up to the sixth Jakarta Fashion Week, with over 240 designers showcasing their latest collections this week.

The organizers estimated that some 17,000 fashion fans will visit the week-long event, held at Senayan City shopping center in South Jakarta.

“JFW 2014 involves many more designers, models and it has more than 75 fashion shows, thousands of looks, all indicating significant increase from last year which reaffirms its status as the largest fashion event in the country and the region,” said Svida Alisjhabana, chairman of the organizing committee of JFW 2014, according to Indian-based Fibre2fashion.com.

The opening of this year’s Jakarta Fashion Week will feature Indonesian designers exclusively, including those who specialize in creation fashion for Muslims.

One designer who displayed his collection was Indonesian designer Tex Saverio, who has dressed Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga.

“The theme of the Spring-Summer 2014 collection is fantasy made reality, a wearable collection for modern women,” Saverio told reporters before the show, according to Indonesia daily The Jakarta Post.

Several international designers from Japan, South Korea, Thailand and the Netherlands have opted this year to use traditional Indonesian fabrics for their collections.
