Khaled Shaeri, a morbidly obese Saudi youth who has been undergoing treatment at Riyadh’s King Fahd Medical City (KFMC) has lost more than half of his weight within seven months.

The 22-year-old, who was airlifted to KFMC upon the Saudi king's orders in 2013, has succeeded at decreasing his weight to less than 300 kgs thanks to rehabilitation, surgery and diet.

Shaeri weighed 610 kg when he was admitted to KFMC on Aug. 19 following an order by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.

Doctor Ayed al-Qahtani said Shaeri suffered difficulties speaking and moving, adding, however, that he managed to utter simple words and to move his feet despite his obesity.

Shaeri receives his visitors with a smile everyday which helped him cope with his suffering.

Fayez al-Maliki, the doctor supervising Shaeri's case, said the latter's movement via a wheelchair that's designed specifically for him has become easy.

"All what's left is to see him walk on his feet," Maliki added.
