Seven months pregnant MonaLisa Perez, 19, shot and killed her boyfriend Pedro Ruiz III, 22, while attempting to make a viral YouTube stunt video, a news report has revealed. The couple’s YouTube channel has over 1,000 subscribers and features videos of their daily lives.
As reported by American news outlet, CNN, Perez called 911 on Monday evening after she shot her boyfriend. She told police that Ruiz was holding a book to his chest and thought that the bullet would not go all the way through.
Perez had tweeted on Monday that they were about to shoot “one of the most dangerous videos ever.”
Perez, who is expecting her second child with Ruiz, stood at a close range and shot her boyfriend with a handgun. The book did not stop the bullet and, according to paramedics, Ruiz died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
The video is currently being treated as evidence and is not posted on the channel. Perez could face up to 10 years in prison if she is convicted with manslaughter. Perez had been released on bail and is set to appear in court on July 5.
