BBC apologizes over ‘no nudity in Game of Thrones’ news alert

Two erroneous breaking news items were sent to millions of UK subscribers

The BBC apologized Wednesday for sending subscribers to its news alerts app a breaking news alert saying “No nudity in latest episode of Game of Thrones!!!”

Two erroneous breaking news items were sent to millions of UK subscribers to the service on Wednesday morning, the media organization said.

Besides the Game of Thrones-related alert, the news organization sent out another item saying “NYPD Twitter campaign ‘backfires’ after hashtag hijacked.”

“We’ve been in the process of testing new functionality for our apps and a test message was sent in error this morning,” a spokesman said.

“We apologies to our app users who were unnecessarily interrupted with the alert.”
