Mohammed Rashid al-Ajami was released days before Doha is set to host the World Media Summit
A Qatari poet who has been previously sentenced for 15 years has been reportedly pardoned and released by Qatar’s ruler Sheikh Tamim al-Thani late on Tuesday, according to UN and Amnesty International sources.
The release of Mohammed Rashid al-Ajami , who goes by the name ibn al-Dheeb in his poetry, comes just days prior to Qatar hosting the International Press Institute (IPI) World Congress event and the World Media Summit, where several representatives from news organizations are expected to make their way to Doha for both events.
