Despite having been referred to as part of a “migrant gang,” the man who has been held is actually Bulgarian

A man suspected of kicking a woman down a flight of stairs at a Berlin underground station, as seen in CCTV footage that shocked many online, has been arrested.

Despite having been referred to as part of an “migrant gang” from war-torn areas in the Middle East, the man who has been held is actually Bulgarian, according to the Guardian.

“Svetoslav Stoykov, 27, was arrested at a bus station on arrival in Berlin after a 21-hour journey from southern France, where it is believed he went to hide with relatives in Nice,” according to the newspaper.

The footage of the incident - which occurred after midnight on Oct. 27, in Neukölln subway station, Berlin – shows the woman walking down the stairs towards the metro line. As she walked down the stairs a man in a leather jacket and a baseball cap - who appeared to be drinking – appeared from behind her and kicked her – causing her to fall down the steps.
