A teenager committed suicide by throwing himself off of a building rooftop in Aghadir, south of Morocco, to complete the final challenge of a game called Blue Whale which has caused five other child suicides in Algeria by means of hanging.
The young man was an undergraduate student who was known to be an introvert, local media reported on Thursday. He was addicted to video games, and quickly got into the Blue Whale game which gives players orders that they need to execute, the last of which is to commit suicide. The teenager threw himself off the roof of his building where he resided with his family.
The deadly game requires players to go through 50 challenges over 50 days. The challenges begin with self-harm, leading up to the final challenge which is suicide by hanging or jumping off a high building.
During the past few weeks, Arab countries have been on edge due to the number of Arab teenagers getting involved in the game, specifically in Algeria. The Tunisian government has warned families of the dangers of the internet, advising parents to keep a close eye on their children.
The Dubai Police published a statement strictly warning of the deadly game, asking parents to take the necessary measures to stop their children from downloading it and going through with the challenges.
The game is said to have killed children around the world as well, including in Russia and India.
