Facebook, Instagram outage affects users worldwide

Facebook and Instagram went down on Tuesday morning, with users around the globe reporting issues updating statuses, slow load times and connecting to Messenger.

According to downdetector.com, a portal that tracks when outages happen in the digital world, reported outages were heaviest on the east coast of the United States and across Europe.

While the site seemed to come back slowly as the morning went on, posts on social media (those that weren’t Facebook and Instagram, of course), showed that when their social media goes down, the internet just cannot handle it.

On Tuesday, several users in the US and Europe that Facebook Messenger was not working for them.

According to DownDetector.comthousands of Messenger users were unable to receive messages, log in and connect to server.

The outage began after midnight and continued for a few hours, before the Messenger was restored.

Facebook was yet to reveal the reason behind the outage.

"Messenger is generally reliable, but has had more issues recently, with four outages in September alone," said a Forbes report.
