Netflix to film series based on investigation of Petrobras

A Netflix statement posted on its website says filming of the series will start this year

Internet video service Netflix says it will start filming a new series based on the ongoing corruption investigation involving Brazil’s state-owned oil company Petrobras.

A Netflix statement posted on its website says filming of the series will start this year, and the first episode is scheduled to be aired in 2017.

The yet-to-be-named series will be directed by Brazilian film director, producer and screenwriter Jose Padilha.

“Netflix recognizes Jose Padilha’s talent in turning fast-moving current events into compelling narratives,” Erik Barmack, Netflix vice president of international original content says in the statement.

Prosecutors allege that over $2 billion was paid in bribes by businessmen to obtain Petrobras contracts, projects that then subsequently ballooned in costs.
