Sharp criticism of the media is a staple of Trump rallies. Trump said he's not running against the Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, who he calls "crooked Hillary", but against "the crooked media".

Connecticut has not voted for a Republican for president since 1988.

Trump has claimed the state as one of several normally Democratic states in which he plans to compete.
