Yemeni activist Noria Najy this week became the first Arab woman to receive an Order of the British Empire (OBE) from Queen Elizabeth.

Nagy received the OBE for a decade of charity work.

“I’m being honored at the palace of Queen Elizabeth, this is amazing and makes me feel proud as a Yemeni and an Arab woman who’s being honored today for charity work in Yemen. I feel honored and I think all Yemenis would feel the same too.”

The ceremony was held at Buckingham Palace, London.

Around 550 children across Yemen are being provided with educational assistance from Yemen’s Education Foundation and Relief, founded by Najy. A quarter of all the children enrolled are supported by Najy’s personal finances.
