“The club asks for all those concerned to respect the privacy of coach Metsu and his family at this sensitive time, and not to believe the rumors circulating that may have a negative effect on all those concerned,” the statement said.

The team’s management has requested that Metsu’s privacy is respected.
A spokesman from the club told Sport360 that Metsu was in “good spirits” and that his condition was “not critical” despite his need for further tests.

Metsu was responsible for Senegal’s greatest ever year in their football history. His two year spell with them resulted in the country receiving the runner up medal in the African cup of nations in 2002, and reaching the quarterfinal of the World Cup the same year – an unprecedented feat in Senegal’s football history for both tournaments.

He replaced the sacked Diego Maradona and became in charge of coaching al-Wasl in mid July, 2012.
