The Omega Dubai Desert Classic is set to begin on Thursday, the event will take place at the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis Course in Dubai.
The sporting event will host some of the biggest names in Golf and is promoted and organized by the Umbrella Organization in the city, reported local media.
The defending champion is Spaniard Rafael Cabrera-Bello, who became only the fifth Spanish player to win the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, reported 7days on Wednesday.
132 players will compete this year, this includes: Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Gareth Maybin, former world #1 Lee Westwood and many more.
Lee Westwood was hopeful about this year’s competition and reflected on his past performance.
“This is certainly one I’d like to win,” he said. “I feel like I’ve got a chance come Sunday. I lost to Miguel [Angel Jimenez] in a playoff in 2010 and felt like I should have won that one and last year I putted awful. I feel like I’ve let a couple slip.”
The Omega Dubai Desert Classic will start from the 28 January to 3 February, and the winner of the tournament will win approximately $2.8 million prize pool.
