Egypt beat Uganda 3-0 in an international friendly that was nearly canceled as more deadly violence spread across the troubled North African country on Wednesday.

Former U.S. coach Bob Bradley's Egypt team continued its strong form despite the troubles at home, having already qualified for Africa's final round of World Cup qualifiers in September.

Ahmed Hassan scored the opener in the 22nd minute despite Ugandan players claiming offside. Basel winger Mohamed Salah and Ibrahim Salah added second-half goals for the Egyptians.

Wednesday's game was played in the Red Sea resort of El Gouna and went ahead after the Egyptian Football Association had considered canceling it because of clashes in the capital Cairo and other cities as police stormed protesters' camps. At least 149 people were killed nationwide.
