Jordan to play against Uruguay in World Cup qualifier match

Published: Updated:

Jordan is set to play against the world’s sixth ranked national team, Uruguay, on Wednesday in a match that could qualify the Arab team for the World Cup for the first time.

Jordan took part in World Cup qualifiers in 1985, but this is the first time Jordan has reached this far in the qualifiers, according to The Jordan Times.

The first leg game, which will kick off at 6:00 p.m. local time, will be played at the Amman International Stadium.

The second leg, to be played in Uruguay, is slated for Nov. 20.

Head coach, Egypt’s Hossam Hassan, has replaced Iraq’s Adnan Hamad to coach the Jordanians in the final phase of the Asian Zone World Cup qualifying play-off.

Uruguay was a semifinalist in the 2010 World Cup.
