Football forward Karim Benzema renews Real Madrid contract

The new contract will keep the French national of Algerian descent at the Bernabeu stadium until 2019

Spanish football club Real Madrid announced Wednesday the extension of striker Karim Benzema’s contract for five more years.

“Real Madrid C. F. announces the extension of Karim @Benzema's contract for the next five seasons until June 30, 2019,” the club wrote on Twitter.

The new contract will keep the French national of Algerian descent at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium until 2019.

Benzema’s future with the Spanish team had been in doubt following the summer arrivals of Toni Koos and James Rodriguez.

The 26-year-old player, who was in France’s World Cup lineup, joined Real Madrid in 2009 from French team L’Olympic Lyonnais.
