Chelsea refuses to let Salah play in Egypt-Kenya friendly
The London-based club rejected the offer because it coincides with its game against Everton
Chelsea has refused to allow his Egyptian midfielder Mohammad Salah to join Egypt’s squad for a friendly match later this month, Egypt’s coach said.
Egypt will host Kenya on August 30 as part of their preparations for the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Egypt’s coach Shawky Ghareeb said he sent a request to Chelsea asking for Salah’s participation.
But Chelsea rejected the offer because it coincides with its game against Everton, Ghareeb said.
“Chelsea refused to release Salah before Kenya's friendly, which is not included in the FIFA calendar," Gharib said in a television interview, according to Cairo-based Ahram Online.
However, Salah will be available for Egypt’s game against Senegal early September.
"The English club confirmed that Salah will be in Cairo on 31 August, five days before our game against Senegal," Ghareeb added.
