While Milan have previously played three friendly matches in the UAE over the last several years, this match will mark Madrid’s first showing in the country

Top European football clubs AC Milan and Real Madrid will play a friendly match in Dubai on December 30, the game sponsor, Dubai-based carrier Emirates Airlines, announced on Monday.

The announcement was made at the headquarters of Dubai-based carrier Emirates Airlines, in the presence of both former Madrid striker Emilio Butragueno and former Milan defender Franco Baresi.

While Milan have previously played three friendly matches in the UAE over the last several years, this match will mark Madrid’s first showing in the country.

“Thanks to the World Cup, we have seen the obsession with the beautiful game hit fever pitch amongst locals, expats and visitors alike, so it’s the perfect time to bring this world-class match to the emirate,” said Hamad Mohammed Bin Mejren, Executive Director of Dubai Convention and Events Bureau at DTCM, a coordinating partner of the Dubai Football Challenge, according to a press release.

“Not only has 2014 been a record year for football, but also for our city, which is both honoured and incredibly proud to be playing host to Real Madrid and AC Milan. Of course, the emirate is no stranger to welcoming such momentous sporting events; already hosting some of the world’s largest tournaments.”

Tickets for the event, which cost from $55, are on sale in selected Dubai retail outlets.
