Italian model qualifies to referee Serie A football fixtures

Claudia Romani passed all qualifications required to be an Italian Serie A referee

A former model could finally ditch the stilettoes for a whistle after she passed all qualifications required to be an Italian Serie A referee.

“Running around on the pitch with all those players and calling the shots is just an irresistible opportunity,” the 32-year-old Claudia Romani was quoted as saying this week, reported British daily the Independent.

So far, no female referee has taken charge of a Serie A match but other women have increasingly taken such roles in other popular leagues in the world.

Bibiana Steinhaus in Germany became the first female referee to officiate a professional men’s match.
