A UK football player kissed his opponent this week during a football game to “defuse” a heated situation.

Bristol Rovers midfielder Lee Mansell kissed Gateshead's JJ O'Donnell as they were in an angry head-to-head confrontation on the pitch.

Commenting on the kiss, Mansell said: “I did it to defuse the situation. It's the first time I've been booked for kissing someone.”

“We either clash heads and he goes down or I end up doing something silly,” he added in comments to the BBC.

“But we had a laugh and a joke about it with the lads afterwards. It's another thing to add to the list of daft things I've done on the football pitch,” he said.

The incident happened at the Bristol’s Memorial Stadium in England during a game between both teams that ended with a victory for the Bristol Rovers.
