Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has put to use Twitter’s new group direct messaging app by chatting with fans online.
Twitter added a feature that allows users to send group direct messages earlier this month.
Benzema has already started using the feature. He tweeted on Friday as part of Adidas’ new “There Will Be Haters” advertising campaign, which also features football stars Diego Costa and Luis Suarez.
Fans who were interested in the campaign were invited to participate in the group chat, according to The Independent.
But Benzema seemed to confuse Twitter’s old and new messaging features at the beginning.
His first tweet said: “Hi guys, i'm ready to start the Twitter DM!” -- An abbreviation for Twitter’s direct messaging application that was introduced to the platform years ago.
He ended the conversation by saying: “Hope you enjoyed the first ever Twitter DM!”
But the player fixed that in his last message, where he said he just “did his first group DM” and mentioned the fans he chatted with, along with using the hashtag #therewillbehaters.
Fans cheered Adidas for the opportunity to chat with Benzema.
