Qatar's al-Sadd football club began the new Qatar Stars League season with a fine 4-0 win over Mesaimeer in the first round match which was held on Sunday in the capital Doha.

But the FIFA official website pointed to the technical and physical difference between the teams and the control demonstrated by al-Sadd gave them the edge over the newly-promoted team.

Korean defender Lee Jung Soo opened the scoring in the 12th minute, before Muriqui netted a hattrick with strikes in the 39th, 75th and 87th minutes to give Al-Sadd its first three points.

The website also talked of the Spanish star Xavi Hernandez and his great performance in the match, which was his debut outing for al-Sadd since joining from Barcelona in the summer.

Xavi had a big role in the victory and contributed in creating goals for the team in his first official match, according to al-Sadd’s official website.
