Adel Ezzat was elected on Saturday to lead the Saudi Football Federation following 3 fierce rounds of voting at the King Fahad Cultural Center in Riyadh.

Three other candidates ran for the presidency: Salman al Malik, Khalid bin Omar, and Najib abu Admah, to succeed the current president, Ahmed Eid, whose term comes to an end by the end of December.

The first round was tight, Ezzat seized 15 votes out of the 42 members of the committee. He was followed by bin Omar who won 14 votes, and 12 by al Malik. Bin Azmah was forced to exit the race after obtaining a single vote only.

Ezzat won 20 votes versus al Malik’s 12 in the second round, which saw the departure of bin Omar.

In the third and decisive round, Ezzat snatch the majority of the members’ votes by winning 25 whilst al Malik lost managing only 17. Thus, the winner of the post of president of the Saudi Football Federation for the next 4 years is Adel bin Mohammed Ezzat.

For his part, the new president made a statement to the media immediately after winning, saying: “I thank, the Government of the Custodian of the Holy Shrines for his endless support of sports and youth.” He also thanked Prince Abdullah Bin Musaid on his extraordinary efforts to drive the sport to a golden age again. He extended these thanks to Ahmed Eid and members of his administration on the mighty effort that they have made, thanks to the members of the General Assembly for their confidence, and, God willing, I will be better than you hoped, God willing, we will deliver our football to a new golden age.
