Photos emerge of Egyptian star footballer working as fruit-vendor in Cairo

Published: Updated:

In 2012, Egypt’s Tarek Jazzar was awarded Best Footballer at Italy’s World Cup games for the deaf and mute.

Now, he sells fruit and vegetables for a living in Cairo.

Pictures of Jazzar selling fresh produce at a stall in Giza Square were widely shared on social media, leading to him becoming a trending topic on Tuesday.

Many Egyptians vented their anger at how Jazzar should be appreciated by the state as an athlete who once boosted the country’s sporting image abroad.
