Al-Jazira club fans cheer for Messi to tease Ronaldo in Abu Dhabi

Published: Updated:

Fans of Emirati club Al-Jazira SCC teased Real Madrid’s golden player, Cristiano Ronaldo, with cheers for his rival player Leo Messi in the semi-final of FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017 in Abu Dhabi.

While Ronaldo was close to the crowd in the first half, the fans shouted "Messi .. Messi" while the best player in the world stood stunned, staring at the supporters of the UAE team, still Real Madrid won by 2-1.

It is not the only incident of its kind, the fans of Girona called Messi’s name whenever Ronaldo received the ball in a match between the two-teams two months ago.

Four years ago, Portuguese fans were furious at the performance of their captain in a World Cup qualifying game.

Messi's name echoed loudly to provoke Ronaldo, as did the fans of Austria in the Euro 2016 tournament when Ronaldo wasted several chances in the match ending it with 0 - 0 score.

Sporting Lisbon, Ronaldo’s home team, chanted his name whenever Messi took the ball each time during the Champions’ League group game in Europe this year.

The competition between Messi and Ronaldo became the most prominent in the world after the transfer of the latter to Real Madrid in the summer of 2009.

The duo dominated the World Player of the Year for the last 10 years, and they both lead as the top scorers in the Champions League throughout its history.

The FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2017 is hosted by the United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi from 6 - 16 December 2017.
