Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona has made local history in the United Arab Emirates after his team progressed to the the quarter-finals of the President’s Cup on Monday.

Maradona’s second tier club Fujairah advanced with a dramatic extra-time 3-2 win over top-team Hatta in Kalba.

Despite playing with only a 10-men side for over an hour, after Ahmad Al Hefeit was sent off for a second bookable offence on 52 minutes, Haitham Ali scored the decisive goal after 120 minutes when both sides were drawn at 2-2.

Footage from Abu Dhabi Sports showed Maradona’s wild celebration when the final whistle was blown is slowly going viral across social media accounts in the UAE.
