Key responsibilities and accountabilities
The candidate will be required to monitor, collect and analyze facts about newsworthy current events and create breaking news updates and publish immediately, with a focus on both speed and accuracy.
You will be required to formulate hard news through online or personal sources, investigation, interviews, news wires, social media and data analysis.
- Monitor various channels, news outlets, wires, press agencies, government sources, social media for breaking news updates
- Verify and publish relevant breaking news on the website and on social media channels
- Arrange interviews with people who can provide information about a story
- Establish and maintain relationships with credible sources
- Review and evaluate news events to isolate pertinent facts and details
- Analyze information obtained from news sources
- Agree with the editor on stories, angles and areas of concentration
- Complete tasks assigned by the editor
Requirements- 5+ years of experience in online journalism
- Proven speed and accuracy in reporting news
- Strong English language editing, writing and reporting skills
- Strong written and spoken communication skills
- Proven ability to reach relevant and credible sources
- Proven knowledge of the politics in the Middle East
- Data analysis capabilities
- Have relevant contacts
- Word and Excel skills
- An eye for detail along with critical thinking
- Arabic speaking and translation skills are an advantage
