Dubai, the self-proclaimed “city of gold,” has been chosen as one of five international destinations to unveil a new range of 24-carat gold footwear, reported ArabianBusiness.
The high-heeled shoe for women and loafer for men are both fashioned of velvet, colored with 24-carat gold. The pricey product is currently being sold in the UAE’s largest shopping center, the Dubai Mall in the 96,000 square feet shop, the Level Shoe District.
It is billed as the world’s largest department store dedicated solely to shoes. Level Shoe District houses 15,000 pairs of shoes across around 250 different brands.
The footwear is distributed exclusively to only four other department stores worldwide, according to ArabianBusiness; Fred Segal Los Angeles, Harrods London, Barneys New York, The Swank Hong Kong.
The shoes were designed by Tuscan-born designer Alberto Moretti, artistic director of Arfango, a label set up in 1902 and highly regarded for its skilled workmanship of leathers.
The designs were part of Moretti’s autumn/winter 2013 collection, and were presented for the first time during the Monte Carlo Grand Prix.
Celebrities who have worn Alberto Moretti's shoes include singer Lady Gaga, Hollywood’s Cameron Diaz and actor Ryan Gosling.
The 24-carat pair of shoes costs $2,600.
