Obama’s birthday gift to Michelle: time alone in Hawaii

Recent U.S. media reports of Obama and Michelle’s relationship as being on thin ice have been ignored by the White House

U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama is a lucky lady, many would say.

Her birthday present from husband President Barack Obama will be time off in Hawaii, without the children.

"As part of her birthday gift from the president, the first lady will remain in Hawaii to spend time with friends ahead of her upcoming 50th birthday," a White House official said on Sunday.

Obama, Michelle and their two girls had been on vacation in Hawaii for the last two weeks

The president was leaving Honolulu late on Saturday after a vacation that was filled with several games of golf and dinners out. He and his children are scheduled to arrive in Washington on Sunday morning, according to Reuters news agency.

Recent U.S. media reports of Obama and Michelle’s relationship as being on thin ice have been ignored by the White House.

A U.S. tabloid reported in December that Michelle Obama was filing a divorce, while another daily said that the Obamas sleep in different rooms. The reports were dismissed as “exaggerated” however by commentators and the White House never released an official statement.
