Viral video exposes Lebanese teacher beating students

The footage shows students being whipped by the school’s principal for ‘bad grades’

A now viral video showing a school teacher caning his students in south Lebanon has sparked outrage among social media users.

The footage shows Moussa Daher, of the Zahrani branch of Makassed School, violently hitting young boys for “failing in his studies,” the Lebanese Daily Star website reported.

The students were forced to kneel on an office chair barefooted, as the teacher whipped them.

Lebanese Education Minister Elias Bou Saab was quoted by the Daily Star as saying that the teacher was banned from the profession as punishment.

The minister said five children, including the three shown in the video, were victims of the teacher’s violent behavior.

In statements to the staff and students outside the school, Daher expressed his regret over the incident, according to the report.

He said his “anger” was triggered by the students’ “bad grades.”

“I did what I did to discipline them [students] because I fear for their future,” he reportedly said.

“I ask the [education] minister and Makassed Association to withdraw the decision to expel me.”
