Iraqi official walks off TV program after corruption report
The report sought clarification on the fate of $50 billion earmarked to the city’s reconstruction
An Iraqi official walked off a television program Monday investigating the fate of billions of dollars earmarked to rebuild the country’s capital, Baghdad.
Abdul-Karim al-Muhammadawi, from the Secretariat of Baghdad for Services, walked off the Hadath television program “Studio Baghdad” moments after the host concluded a report highlighting the lack of improvements in the capital and sought clarification on the fate of $50 billion that had been devoted to the city’s reconstruction.
Muhammadawi left without commenting and the host moved on to her other guest after the official’s surprise withdrawal. The intended interview was part of the television's special coverage of Iraq's upcoming legislative elections.
